The romantic style, I am sure you’ve heard that term before? If you haven’t then you’re reading the right piece! I am going to talk about what it is and tips for constructing the perfect outfit exuding the romantic style!
If you have read the history of fashion you’ll learn that in the early 1800’s women’s fashion transitioned from the empire style to the romantic style. The waistline dropped from the empire to accentuate the natural waist line and the skirts became fuller and flowy. This is where is all began! So what do you need to know to become the epitome of romantic style? Here are some tips for you..
If there is one thing the romantic style brings to the forefront it’s the soft pastel colors. You are already going down the romantic path when you start with blush, mauve or baby blue in your outfit. Those three colors are some of the most popular pastel colors. So start with one of these feminine colors and you won’t fail!
Soft, Delicate Fabric
Think flowy, soft and delicate, what comes to your mind? Lace, perhaps silk or chiffon? If that’s what you were thinking, then you’ve nailed it! Any of these fabrics coupled with the pastel colors and you’re half way to the perfect romantic style! I am wearing a Shein dress, the Crochet Pom-pom Trim Sheer Lace Dress. This dress is absolutely perfect for the romantic style with its delicate lace and blush color. The pom pom details adds a lovely whimsical touch that I absolutely adore!
Bows, Bows, Bows
When you start putting together an outfit that’s based in the romantic style don’t forget about the fantasy, the whimsical effect, the feminine details. This tip and the next one falls squarely into this category.
So what are we talking about here? Bows! If you remember, in Gossip Girl, Blair Waldorf almost always had her bow headband, but if you feel like a bow headband is not for you, don’t worry! You can have bows on your shoes, your bag or your jewelry. There are plenty of ways to incorporate it in! I am wearing a pair of bow wedges and carrying a crossbody with a lovely bow from Kate Spade! Subtle, simple and whimsical!
Frills, Ruffles and Flowing Details
This tip will complete the romantic style for you! Stay away from anything structured! The romantic style is all about the frills, the ruffles, the bell sleeves, the flowing material! It’s about how the material moves as you move, almost bringing the romance to life! This Shein dress does just that with its beautiful bell sleeves and pom pom detail! It’s perfectly girly and gorgeous!
