Sometimes the Accessories Make All the Difference

I walked into J.Crew a few weeks ago and its summer collection was on sale. The item I scored needed nothing but a revolving set of accessories!

When I started going through all the racks of clothes, this orange dress caught my eye. It was their last piece and it was my size! I couldn’t believe my luck. It’s my style – classic and brightly colored! As I picked it up different ways of styling it went through my head. That’s when it hit me, sometimes the accessories are all you need, they make a world of difference! So I wanted to share my first two ideas with all my wonderful readers 🙂

For these looks, what you need as your key pieces are a sheath dress and a pair of pumps or peep toes. The dress is preferably monochrome because then the accessorizing becomes easier and you get a classic vibe from the look.

The Perfect Work Look

Sheath dresses, in my opinion, are wonderful for work. They are sleek, fitted and present a very polished and professional vibe! I am wearing a pair of peep toe shoes from L.K. Bennett.

To step up your work look a bit you can accessorize the dress but make sure it isn’t over the top or distracting. Keep it simple! I would recommend going with a statement necklace like I have, a sleek bracelet (not too chunky) and of course a watch! I am also wearing a lovely gold ring, but that is entirely optional. My necklace is from Anthropologie, the bracelet is from Loft and the watch is from Tory Burch. Now for the finisher piece, your bag! Work bags call for space, especially if you carry a laptop. They usually are more neutral in color and so I picked out the classic Louis Vuitton Neverfull bag. It was the perfect final touch to this look!

The Dinner or Fancy Brunch Look

The best part about a brightly colored dress is that it doubles up for both day and night! Going to a fancy brunch in a big city? Think Sex and the City and Carrie Bradshaw, well this look has you covered! Going to dinner with your work mates or a in slightly formal setting well look no further! All I have done with this look when you compare it to the last one is switch out the bag and add a scarf! Take a skinny silk scarf and tie it around your waist for a lovely feminine and flirty touch. Pick a nice structured bag and you’re all set! I am carrying a Kate Spade bag and wearing a Loft scarf.

Overall I have pulled my hair up in a bun for a polished look. I am also wearing a demure shade of lipstick from Marc Jacobs.

This dress looks fabulous on you. I love the pink and orange combination. I’m only 5’2 so I know how hard it is to get a perfect fitting classic dress.
