There are so many tips out there around what necklace to wear with your neckline. However none of those are customized for us petite girls! So I wanted to give you my take on these pairings! I hope you get some good pointers 🙂
One key difference between us petite girls and the taller girls is that there usually isn’t much length between our neckline and waistline (duh!) but this makes a difference when accessorizing and picking the right necklace! So here we go..
V-Neck
V-necks can be tricky for us small girls! The reason is that a V neck on a petite girl isn’t as long or wide as they would be for a taller girl. Which then makes it hard for us to wear a necklace that would entirely sit inside the V on our chest. Yes, you could wear a necklace with a pendent but it would have to be on a rather short chain or you could go in for a choker too. But if you want to wear bold jewelry then your option is to pick something that sits high on the neck and fill up most of the V like in the picture. This way you preserve some of the V making it look bigger than it really is and also giving your chest some more length!
Off-Shoulder
I love off-shoulder necklines! They really are so much fun. Again, the off-shoulder neckline goes through a similar problem the V neckline runs into, space! If you want the off-shoulder to sit at a point where you aren’t showing too much skin it’s not going to provide you enough space for a mid length necklace. The best way to accessorize this is to go one of two routes – the choker or the long necklace!
Sweetheart Neckline
While the off-shoulder and V necklines could pose some challenges for us petite girls the next 4 necklines are probably the best for us to accessorize!
The sweetheart neckline, a really pretty neckline that provides ample space for a lovely chunky necklace. Now this particular neckline is not a true sweetheart but it has the makings of one with the heart-shaped middle and the width across the chest. The best necklaces for this neckline are a chunky necklace, like the one is the pic, or a necklace that sits in a V shape so that it compliments the neckline shape!
Scoop Neck
The scoop neck is like a sweetheart neckline. There are so many different ways you can accessorize it. I have shown you 3 different ways. The first way is with a long layered necklace. There are a couple of things to keep in mind if you choose this style. The main one is that the shortest layer needs to sit on the dress not your bare chest. The second is that if you choose a long necklace don’t wear a contrasting belt. This makes the look appear cluttered. Instead choose a belt that is the same color as your outfit and you’re good to go!
The next two looks are with necklaces that sit inside the scoop neck on your chest. You can pick a full necklace like the pearl necklace, to fill up the space in the scoop neck or the other way to go would be to wear a lovely chunky necklace that sits around your neck but is very attractive!
Collared
The collared shirt! The collared shirt is one of my faves for work. So you might have seen a model wear a collared shirt and then have a beautiful chunky necklace sit inside the neckline on their chest. Guess what, that doesn’t really work when you’re petite! The necklace invariably gets hidden! So the best way to wear a necklace is around the collar and it sits on your shirt! There are 2 tips I have for this, if you choose a long layered necklace, then the shortest layer needs to sit below the first button you have buttoned up. The second tip I have is to pick a V-shaped necklace so it fills the area around the collar and you get some length on it too!
Jewel Neckline
The jewel neckline is also known at the crew neck. For a more formal dress like this one it’s referred to as a jewel neck and it’s called a crew neck if it’s for a tee or a more casual piece of clothing. You can wear just about any necklace on this neckline except a choker! I have styled it with a long strand of pearls and with a shorter necklace. The key difference between these two are that if you pick a long necklace let that be the focus point. If you pick a short necklace then you can also opt in for a belt like I have to add some more drama to the look!
Crew Neck Tee
The crew neck tee, I love this piece of clothing! It’s such a great piece to accessorize. A plain crew neck tee is the best piece of clothing to wear a large statement necklace on! Just keep one thing in mind, if you do plan to wear a large statement necklace then have the tee be monochrome. This way all the attention is on the necklace, having a print on the top will cause a distraction and avoiding that is probably best especially when you have a tiny frame like me!
I hope this post will help you the next time you try picking out your necklace!
