Chicago summers, the season that is my most favorite time of the year, but I feel like it makes a ‘blink and miss’ appearance! But that doesn’t mean that I won’t be making the most use of this wonderful time to wear all my cute little shorts, sundresses and of course rompers! Styling a romper is fun and who knew it could be so versatile?! Read on to find out more..
The Day Look
Lets start by looking at styling a romper for some day looks.
Pick a Pair of Flats
Wearing a romper for a street fest? Or perhaps to go shopping? Yes, these are all great places to wear a romper. When you have to do a lot of walking you need to find a comfortable but cute pair of shoes. These Esprit sandals with a barely there inch wedge are comfortable, you can walk a mile in them and they are adorable! Another tip when you’re going out and expecting to be there a while, make sure you go to the restroom before you go 🙂 Trust me, trying to get out of the romper to use the restroom can be challenging and tedious sometimes, especially when you’re at an outdoor event 🙂
Lace Ups Look Fab!
While you can pick a pair of flats and call it a day, you can also pick a fabulous pair of lace ups. With all the leg you’re showing you have some leg to play with and accessorize! I absolutely love that option when I have it! These J.Crew lace ups look stunning and are very casual. You can wear this to a casual day event 🙂
Wear it With An Ankle Strap
Yes I know, wearing an ankle strap is a no no for a petite girl. But as you may have heard, ‘exceptions prove the rule!’ When you’re wearing a romper you are already showing plenty of leg. Surprisingly in this case when you wear an ankle strap is defines the length of the leg even more. Check out the pic and tell me what you think! Pairing your romper with a wedge ankle strap shoe makes it both chic and comfortable for a day look. These Nine West wedges are absolutely perfect for just that! You will be ready for a day BBQ, or perhaps a brunch. I have more tips on completing your look in the Accessories Story section below 🙂
Add a Pop of Color
You know I love my color 🙂 I absolutely love adding color to my day time looks. I have added in a pop of yellow in two looks. One is little more vibrant than the other. You can decide which one to go for, but the brighter pop of color is for a more casual look than the more subtle yellow.
For The Night
Pair it With Heeled Lace Ups
I love a pair of heels for a night out. A pair of heels immediately elevates any look from casual to dressy. When you’re wearing a romper pairing it with a heeled pair of lace ups is going to look absolutely stunning. If you can find a lovely colored pair of heels that’s definitely a bonus! I am wearing a gorgeous pair of blue lace up heels from Nine West!
Add Some Leopard Print
Leopard is one of those prints that adds an edge and a sexy vibe for any night out look. You can add it into a look in various ways. You could wear a pair of leopard print pumps or carry a leopard print bag or wear it as part of your necklace perhaps! I have chosen to go with a Kate Spade leopard print bag.
The Accessories Story
Play With the Jewelry
Jewelry is another great outfit finisher. But when you’re wearing a monochrome romper you can really use jewelry to take the style quotient up or keep it casual. I have gone in for a sparkly colorful necklace for a night look and opted for either no jewelry or a white flower necklace for a day look. I would suggest going sans jewelry to a summer fest but you can wear something cute if you’re going to a brunch or day party.
Mix Up the Bag Game
The bag game, another accessory you can change up for switching between day and night. I have chosen a crossbody and a colorful wristlet for my day looks. These are very convenient and lend a casual look to the outfit. For the night, I would suggest either a sleek clutch, a shoulder bag or a bag you can hook on your arm. I have opted for the leopard shoulder bag. It definitely adds an edge to the look!
Belt It Up
And finally, the main tip for us petite girls. You need a belt to add definition and create the illusion of longer legs! You can go in for a simple leather belt for a day look and then switch it up to a metallic belt for a night look!
Now you have a list of tips for your shoes, jewelry and accessories that you can use to style your romper and transition it from day to night and casual to sexy! I hope you find these useful 🙂
