There was a time when stylists would tell petite girls to avoid midi skirts. But when rules are meant to be broken then why not break this one! I am 5ft tall on a good day and if I can pull off a midi so can you. Here are some of my tips that will help you with midi skirt styling.

Clean Cut Skirt
When you’re petite one thing to always keep in mind is that clean cuts are your best friend. They don’t overwhelm your frame which is key to pulling your look together. A simple A-line midi skirt is probably your best bet. This gorgeous skirt from Zara really nails the clean cut. I absolutely love it!

The Vertical Lines
Midi skirts with pleats are amazing. They provide the illusion of length to your legs. The vertical lines draw the eye up and down elongating your body which makes you look taller. Now isn’t that just perfect!

Accentuate the Waist
Another important pointer to keep in mind is that you want your legs to look long especially since you are wearing a midi skirt. The best way to do this is to accentuate your waist. The reason for this is that then the length of your legs starts from the waist and so appears longer than if you let the skirt sit on your lower waist!

Crop Top Pairing
This tip goes hand in hand with the previous tip. When you wear a crop top, you are drawing attention to your midriff. I have used a crop top from Forever21 baring my midriff ever so slightly to draw attention to my waist! Another way you could do this is by wearing a tie front top like I have done with the chambray top!

Tailored and Fitted Top
Along with the tip for trying out a crop top, the other thing is to ensure that you top is fitted and has a nice tailored look. No frilly, loose, oversized tops. These will drown you out and you want to avoid that. A fitted top will not compete with the long skirt and will make sure your outfits look polished and classy! I have paired the skirt with a fitted sweater tucked in to give it a streamlined finish.

Low Vamp Shoes
This one again is to elongate the little leg you bare. With a midi skirt try to make sure it ends just below the widest part of your calf. That makes your legs look slender. Then use a low vamp shoe like I have to make sure that the few inches of your legs appear long. This will also give the illusion of height 🙂 Both the Tory Burch wedges and my Alice + Olivia pumps have low vamps.

Polished Hair
When you have a midi skirt you want to make sure that every other detail is not overwhelming. One of my tips if you have long hair is to neatly tie it up creating a clean and polished look. I have put my hair up in a low bun and it really does complete the midi skirt look nicely!

Great skirt! I’m 5 ft 4 but feel a lot shorter as skirts always seem way too long on me. Can you recommend a good shop for skirts for petite frames?
