I’ve seen many debates about maternity photo shoots. Should you or shouldn’t you do it. I’m not going to tell you what to do but I thought I’d share my experience with all of you.
I love pictures. I absolutely love capturing moments I can go back and look at and relive them! If I wasn’t an IT professional I think I would either be a designer or a photographer! The only problem with the photographer route is I love being in the pictures too 🤔 Slight dilemma but I digress!
So getting back to the shoot. When we found out we were having a baby one of my first thoughts was – “woohoo I can get fall maternity pictures with the colorful leaves!” My husband can attest to that crazy statement 🤣
One of the first things I did was started looking at Pinterest for the type of pictures I wanted. Once I had the style and the general themes sorted I started the task of finding a photographer. I looked a lot through Instagram and googled a ton. I finally shortlisted a few. Then my husband and I picked the one we loved. That’s how we came to meet Sri and Jana.
Maternity pictures are so personal it was important to me to like and trust the photographers. After talking to Sri I instantly felt comfortable!
We picked the style of pictures we wanted. Conveyed how important the fall colors were and trusted them with everything!
Jana reached out to us with some details and I was to text her a bump pic every week to determine the perfect time for the shoot. We had a slight issue, we were really pushing up against winter and the risk of losing the leaves!
After a few scheduling hurdles we finalized the day. They were going to have my make up done too! I was super excited!
I ended up having the shoot at 32 weeks. I’m so glad we did that because literally the next day there was a big downpour and most of the leaves were gone!
We got to the studio for make up that was done pretty fast. I absolutely loved the make up. After that we were walked through the order we would do the pictures. They were super efficient, really personable and made us feel comfortable.
Jana was so great at helping us with poses and making sure the pictures we set up perfectly. Sri was really fast at capturing the moments beautifully. Ravi did one of my sets and he was awesome too! Working with them was an absolute breeze! My husband who is usually a grumpus when it comes to pictures actually enjoyed himself! I consider that a huge win!
Now for my outfits. I bought both the dresses I wore from Lulus.com. The black bodycon dress and the maroon gown were stunning! I absolutely loved them! Jana gave me the silk fabric for one shoot and the lace gown for the other.
The location the took us to for the outdoor pictures was a dream come true. It was literally fall colors out of a painting! We loved it!
Once we got our edits back we couldn’t stop looking at them. You all know that I did not have a particularly easy pregnancy but these pictures were so beautiful they made me forget everything that was hard!
I wanted to make sure my pregnancy journey was captured and Sri and Jana did such a wonderful job with exactly that. These pictures capture not the pain and the struggles but all of the excitement and love I’ve felt on this journey. It’s such a mixed bag of emotions and I’m trying to hold on to the good parts and let go of the struggles ❤️ After all at the end of it all we have our little peanut!
Stay tuned to find out how we used these pictures because we sure did!
In the end we loved the pictures and would do the same thing if we had a do over! They are priceless ❤️
For international women’s day what better post to share than the one celebrating the beauty of pregnancy and motherhood. Here are my two favorite quotes:
“You are pregnant and you are powerful. You are bold and you are beautiful. Go forward in your boldness, in your beauty and in your contentedness. Trust your body to birth and know that the collective power of women worldwide will be with you.”

“Here’s to strong women: may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.”
