Fall will officially start in about a month, September 22nd to be exact! Instead of going out and buying an entire new fall collection here is how you can wear your summer and spring clothes in fall!

Let’s first look at the Fall 2016 color palette just to make sure we have an idea of what to keep in our wardrobe.
Fall 2016 Color Palette
I love this years palette, it’s bold, bright and beautiful just the way I like it!
Let’s Style Summer and Spring into Fall
Style #1 – Layered up Maxi
Putting away the strappy maxi dress? No don’t do it! Instead take a cardigan and throw it over the dress. A few extra points for finding a drapey cardigan you can tie in the front for added definition in case you’re petite!

Style #2 – Transform the Summer Dress!
If you’re like me and you love your dresses then the more options you have to choose from the better! Don’t discard those summer dresses to the depths of your wardrobe never to be seen again for a year! Instead, take a cardigan and throw it over the dress, belt it up for some definition and your summer dress is ready for fall.

Style #3 – Blazer Up!
Notice that under that lovely wine colored blazer is a summer crop top. Pretty much any summer top with a monochrome blazer ought to take you straight into fall mode! I love my blazers with mini skirts or shorts like I have worn here. It gives me the added inches I really need. In the cooler months pull on a pair of leggings so your legs don’t turn blue and your look is still on point!

Style #4 – Booties and Leather
I can’t tell you how happy I am that the color Lush Meadow made it into the fall palette. That’s so great because I can pull this look right from early summer and take it straight into fall! This year fall is about the bold floral prints as well and this skirt transitions nicely! Throw on the leather jacket, pull up a pair of booties and you’re ready to walk out in the crisp cool fall air!

Style #5 – Layer Under
Everyone always talks about how you can cover you shoulders with a cardigan or perhaps a sweater. But you can also cover your shoulders by putting on your sleeved top and then throwing on the sleeveless or strappy number over it! Take your strappy dresses and layer it over a lovely silk blouse. You can do the same with a sleeveless summer top you love like I have here!

Style #6 – Pumps and Patents
One of the best ways to start the transition of summer crop pants to fall is the introduction of pumps. A gorgeous pair of black pumps really helps to bring in the fall mood. This year patent leather seems to be ubiquitous on the runways! Which was just perfect since I could pull on this summer top, take the summer crop pants (whose color is so close to Potters Clay) throw on the leather jacket and kick on a pair of pumps! Viola all done!

Style #7 – Tights, Stockings and Scarves
Here is another summer staple, the striped shirt! There are so many ways to wear it in fall and here is just another idea. Anytime you pull on a pair of stockings or tights you are already taking a step into fall. The summer shirt paired with a scarf is a great way to make the transition. Anything topped off with a scarf will help you transition to fall. Now pulling all of it in, the shirt with the scarf, the skirt with the stockings has you ready to go!

Style #8 – The Usual Layers
Finally, the trick everyone knows and loves, layering! Here we have the usual suspects, the sleeveless vest, the trench coat and the sweater. Each one of them have helped me transition my summer tops to fall looks.
One thing to remember, a chambray shirt is the best thing you could own. It is almost synonymous with transition! It can be used in any season with slight modifications – rolled up sleeves in summer, under a sweater in fall and rolled down sleeves in spring!

Style #9 – The Utility Jacket
The utility jacket had to have its own section. Trends come and go but this one is here to stay for a while! A utility jacket over any summer top whether it’s jeans or shorts or a skirt will provide just the right amount of protection from the fall breeze. Pair that up with some booties and it’s amazing how fall perfect you’ll be!

I hope these tips will help you use your currently owned wardrobe instead of splurging on a whole new one!
