Fashion vs comfort, what would you choose and why? I was thinking about this the last couple of days and my answer is very true to my profession as a consultant – it depends! What do I mean by that? Well read on and you’ll know π

What’s important to you?!
Let’s start with what’s important to you. Are you the girl that loves the latest trends and wants to give it a try even if it’s just the one time? Or are you the girl that likes to feel good and really doesn’t care about trends and what the latest ‘it girl’ is wearing? Or maybe you’re the girl that likes a little bit of both depending on how you’re feeling when you’re choosing what to wear? So you can see how in these scenarios you could span the gamut from being properly in the ‘I love fashion over comfort’ camp to the reverse and everything in between!

What do you draw your confidence from?
Different people draw confidence from different things. Look within you, introspect and find out what it is for you. I say this because I know I feel confident when I am dressed well and wearing a tall heel, it makes me feel slightly more powerful. Yes, I am petite and all of 5 feet tall, so I have always felt like I needed to look grown up and get all the inches I can to feel confident. This is my way of realizing it. I have friends that are taller and don’t have this same issue. I have seen how they opt for a pair of flats in situations where they need to feel comfortable because they don’t want to be thinking about walking in heels. Now, I am not trying to generalize these two examples and say it applies to everyone. I am just giving you an example of me and my friend and how we come at it from different angles. At the end of the day it’s about you and how you feel!

What’s your brand?
What on earth do I mean by this? Well let me try to explain. If you’re a fashion blogger, like me, you blog about the latest fashion trends and styles, and you take pleasure in telling everyone what you care about, would you want people to see you wearing clothes that are anything but fashionable most of the time? Probably not being as you are trying to create a brand for yourself and make people believe in you and what you’re talking about. Now that doesn’t mean you have to be fashionable and not comfortable but you are opting to make sure you look fashionable most of the time. I can tell you I try to have my looks pulled together in a way that is true to my style – classic and colorful. Does that mean I don’t have days of pure comfort? I most certainly do! But I try to project my brand as much as I can. Many different people do this in different ways!
This can obviously play out in different ways for different people. You could be a blogger with a casual style, perhaps athleisure, thereby always creating stylish looks that are very comfortable and still fashionable but you’ve definitely paid particular attention to the comfort. So for you comfort trumped everything else.

What will you be doing?
Are you picking out an outfit for work or is it an outfit for travel or maybe a vacation and I could go on and on with this list. What I am trying to emphasize is that the trade off you want to make might depend on what you will be doing.
Let’s look at what I do when I am traveling. Comfort is very very important to me in this situation. I will usually wear a pair of flats, jeans and a tee. The same goes for when I go shopping or to the beach.
When I am at work I usually choose fashion but I want it to be comfortable too! So it really gets tricky sometimes.
One place I personally would compromise on comfort would be to a wedding or a party. I would make sure to find a gorgeous outfit and if I had to wear sky high heels that were slightly uncomfortable or a dress that was fitted, but made me look great, I would definitely go for it. But hey that’s just me. I know plenty of people who wouldn’t π
I don’t think there is a single time I would completely forego comfort.

In the end it’s all a delicate balancing act. You might be someone that wants to balance it or you might be someone that has voted for one over the other! Either way, it’s your choice and yours alone! Don’t let the world dictate anything to you and keep this in mind..

Lovely summer look! I like to follow trends and give them a turn my way, but it need to be comfortable too!
Great post!! And I totally agree…. but I love when something is both super cute and comfy!!
I think I go for comfort more now. I have fibromyalgia & chronic fatigue, so comfort is more important for me. But you can still look cute & comfy. I like this dress a lot & it all matches really good. I’m 5’3″.

It usually depends on where I’m going and what I have to do for the day (or night), but most of the time, I’d choose comfort. Though I always make sure they look fashionable, of course. *wink

I love the last quote, and it is so very true! I do like comfort but the I wouldn’t like wearing something really hideous either. I’d like to be a little bit stylish also. Thanks for linking up with us on #FabFridayPost A very interesting read. π x
