I am really excited to reveal this design to you not only because it’s gorgeous but because of how it brings together modern boho chic with a touch of our Indian backgrounds and cultures!
This beautiful floor length dress is made of pure Chanderi dyed in natural color. What is Chanderi fabric you ask? Chanderi is a traditional ethnic fabric, it is lightweight and has a luxurious feel. Chanderi fabric is produced by weaving together silk and golden Zari in a cotton yarn, this is what lends to it the shimmering texture it exhibits. The fabric got its name from a small town named Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh. You can tell the material is gorgeous and really lends a rich look to the dress!
That’s not all I love about the dress, look at it’s beautiful border! This brocade border really classes up the dress adding a very traditional feel to the look much like a sari. In addition to this, the beautiful hand embroidery in Zari work with sequins makes this dress perfect for a special occasion.
Zari is an intricate art of weaving threads made of gold or silver into fabric made of silk to create gorgeous patterns. The designs are exquisite and have a high value attached, the fabric also gets an overall rich and beautiful look. Zari work has been associated with aristocracy in India for a very long time. This art is known as Zardosi in Persian.
I have stuck to gold for the accessories drawing inspiration from the colors in the dress itself. For some definition I have chosen a lovely gold coin belt to go around my waist. Note that you don’t have to wear a belt but I wanted the added definition so I could look taller 🙂 I have also chosen some very traditional Indian jewelry to keep the dress true to it’s background! To add a tad bit more glam, I am wearing a pair of Steve Madden glitter heels and carrying a stone studded Banana Republic clutch.
This dress is definitely a special occasion dress! Want to stand out, be comfortable and still look fabulous? Then this dress is definitely for you!
