As the summer is coming to an end the heat index has gone through the roof. We were in Baltimore this past weekend and it was 112F! Isn’t that just ridiculous! So I’m sure you want to know how to dress up to beat the summer heat. Here are 10 tips for dressing up to beat the summer heat, I hope you love them!
Pick the Right Fabric!
Always go in for natural fibres during the hot months! Natural fibres are cotton, linen and silk. Linen and cotton are both very breathable fabrics. That’s exactly what you need when you are sweating in the summer heat. Also, linen has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties which go a long way when you are sweating. Silk is a great choice for more formal occasions. It is absorbant, lightweight and looks uber classy!
Make sure you pick flat shoes if you perspire on your feet. It’s better to be comfortable than slipping and sliding while you’re trying to walk. Another great choice is open and airy shoes for obvious reasons. You also want to make sure that if you wear closed shoes that you use a pair of socks or liners so that it absorbs the excess moisture.
Go in for Shorts
You might be petite but if you have even the slightest hint of thighs then you’re asking for trouble with a dress. You know what I mean girls! Touching thighs while you walk in the heat is absolutely not fun! The best way to avoid this is to wear a pair of shorts. Go in for cotton or linen to keep you cooler and more comfortable.
Avoid Fitting Clothing
Remember that the best way to keep cool is to make sure that you are wearing breathable outfits! Let it be a tad bit loose. Not oversized! Us petite girls can’t afford the oversized looks! I usually like tie front shirts, because while they can be loose, tying them loosely in the front still gives you a nice shape. Wear a nice sundress, skirts or a tunic for a more airy feel.
A Pattern Does Wonders!
Imagine you’re wearing a lovely light monochrome blue pastel top. Then you realize you are sweating and yes it’s showing! That’s the last thing you want! The best way to avoid this is to go in for patterns. This way you can’t really tell! Gingham and floral patterns are my favorite this time of the year!
Don’t Forget Your Sunnies
Want to grow old gracefully? Well then take those sunglasses with you instead of squinting and creasing the area around your eyes! Sunglasses will also help protect your eyes from the suns rays.
There are so many bags you can choose from in general, however for summer you should try keeping it to a crossbody , a satchel, a clutch or even a bucket bag. This way you avoid anything specifically around your armpit area which could draw your sweat out onto your clothing and make you feel sticky!
Hats are Cute!
Another big one for summer are cute hats! You will see a lot of them in different colors come out at J.Crew, Nordstrom and various other stores. These are perfect to finish off a cute look and provide the much needed relief from the sun that your head needs!
Light Makeup in the Summer Heat
One of the biggest things about summer is light makeup. Some people like using a tinted moisturizer and perhaps a little eyeliner. I personally love the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition. I really like how light it is and the lovely glowy finish it provides. Along with that I use a waterproof mascara to avoid smudging and some very light eyeshadow. Light makeup helps keep you cool and looking natural especially if it’s super hot!
Keep Jewelry to a Minimum
If you love jewelry as much as I do then this one is hard. The best way to wear jewelry in the summer heat is to keep it to earrings and bracelets. Usually necklaces get a tad bit annoying around the neck and where they rest on your torso. The best trick for this is to wear necklines that have your necklace resting on your clothing as opposed to bare skin. This is to prevent direct contact with the skin so as to avoid a reaction with the sweat and the metal. The other trick is to go in with long necklaces so that it’s definitely resting on your clothing. The other trick I have used is to wear a shirt with a collar and have your necklace woven through the collar, that prevents direct contact with the neck too 🙂
I hope this post gives you some helpful tips on how to beat the summer heat while still looking absolutely darling <3
